On Thursday 29th June Sarah Grout has organised for Heartstart Malvern to run a training session in resuscitation techniques - to include updated CPR skills and the use of a defibrillator at the Malvern Hills Hotel, at 6 - 7.30pm, ahead the usual Rotary meeting time. The plan, intentionally, to run immediately prior to the Rotary meeting.
Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, and the kind hospitality of Matthew, a defibrillator has recently been installed on an external wall at the Hotel. It is a key location, with public access for users of the Hills.
On the 29th the Hotel will be training some of their staff but have kindly opened up the opportunity to Rotarians to take advantage of the situation. Sarah spoke to Matthew on Wednesday and he hopes to confirm his staff numbers soon, but if we work on the basis of 6 Rotarians (maybe more) for this first session (and also to have a reserve list if possible) then this is an ideal scenario. The Colwall WINGS WI training session was recently organized on the same basis and it worked well. Further training sessions can be held at a later stage, and you may wish to involve partners and friends. All are welcome. The training is free, and is run by experienced volunteers. Heartstart is a charity, however, and generate their own funds through local fundraising, so any donations are always gratefully received. As for the training itself: comfortable clothing might be worn as trainees will need to kneel on the floor around the mannequins.
If we decide we would like to know more about Heartstart Malvern Sarah Grout would be delighted to make some introductions and to get Richard Vakis-Lowe, the local Chairman, along to talk to you about our work. The website is at www.heartstartmalvern.org.uk and of course you will know that Sarah has invited many of us to like the Facebook and Twitter pages. Of course, Heartstart Malvern's catchment is quite wide-reaching around the villages either side of the Hills.
