Year 10 pupils from the Chase School were eager to get slicing and dicing for this year’s Rotary Young Chef competition, which was sponsored by Colwall Rotary Club.

Staff at the School had organized the earlier rounds of the competition and nine finalists had won through to this stage.

Menus – of either a starter and a main course or a main course and a dessert – had been carefully selected and trialed, with the ingredients purchased for under £10.> The contestants were judged on a variety of skills: planning of menu, healthy choices, cost, organization of their working area, hygiene, the range of skills used in the preparation of the menu and, of course, the taste and presentation of the dishes.

For the third year running the Chase School arranged for 8, Year 10, pupils to take part in a cook-off to select a candidate to go forward to the Rotary District 1100 semi-final. These pupils had already come through heats in which over 70 had taken part. The school final took place on Tuesday 4th December and each student was asked to prepare, cook and serve a healthy 2-course meal for two people, costing no more than £10 for ingredients, in 1 1/2 hours.The three judges were impressed with the overall standard achieved and were unanimous in selecting Zoe Snee as the winner and candidate to go forward to the District 1100 semi-final. Meanwhile,in the Textile and Design Department 6, Year 10, pupils were taking part in a competition where their remit was to make, from their own design, a wine bottle jacket within 2 hours. Again an overall high standard and much ingenuity was shown, the winner being Tia Campbell. The Rotary Club of Colwall sponsored each of these competitions. District 1100 semi-final ...

During the evening of Tuesday 6th December, 12 finalists from The Chase took part in a cook off to gain a place in the next round of the ‘Rotary Young Chef of the Year’ competition.

The Rotary Club's main fund raising activity for 2010-2011 was held on Saturday evening 11th June. This proved to be a dry window in the weather.

Over 470 people attended the event and contributed to the fund raising success - our final total is £18,500+ profit. This will be distributed between The Emily Jordan FoundationRobocap (a charity raising money for new treatment methods of Prostate Cancer) and Water Survival Boxes (a charity founded by the Rotary...
