Staff at the School had organized the earlier rounds of the competition and nine finalists had won through to this stage.

Menus – of either a starter and a main course or a main course and a dessert – had been carefully selected and trialed, with the ingredients purchased for under £10.> The contestants were judged on a variety of skills: planning of menu, healthy choices, cost, organization of their working area, hygiene, the range of skills used in the preparation of the menu and, of course, the taste and presentation of the dishes.

The Rotary Club of Colwall will be holding a bucket shake at Waitrose in Great Malvern on Saturday from 10am until 6pm.in order to raise funds to support the disaster in the Philippines. The club has already sent a donation of £1000 to the ShelterBox organisation which provides emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters, at the time when they need it the most. This collection will enable the club to send even more.

The ShelterBox solution in disaster response is as simple as it is effective. They deliver the essentials a family needs to survive in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. Each large, green ShelterBox is tailored to a disaster but typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, groundsheets, water storage and filtration equipment, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items.

More information on ShelterBox can be found on their website at www.shelterbox.org or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ShelterBox.
