The Rotary Club of Colwall will be holding a bucket shake at Waitrose in Great Malvern on Saturday from 10am until 6pm.in order to raise funds to support the disaster in the Philippines. The club has already sent a donation of £1000 to the ShelterBox organisation which provides emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters, at the time when they need it the most. This collection will enable the club to send even more.

The ShelterBox solution in disaster response is as simple as it is effective. They deliver the essentials a family needs to survive in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. Each large, green ShelterBox is tailored to a disaster but typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, groundsheets, water storage and filtration equipment, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items.

More information on ShelterBox can be found on their website at www.shelterbox.org or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ShelterBox.

Eleven Rotarians ventured on the "European Away Weekend" to Vienna, the fourth such trip undertaken by club members.

The difficult part of the trip had to be confronted right at the beginning - a 4.15am start on the Saturday morning! As a result, the minibus trip to Birmingham Airport was a rather subdued affair and cold and dreary weather did not help.

In December Colwall Rotary Club hosted two ‘Light Up a Life’ Christmas trees – one outside the Colwall Coffee Lounge, the other above the Brewers Arms in West Malvern. This year we were blessed with fair weather, the tree light dedication services were extremely well attended and the money raised for St Michael’s Hospice surpassed all expectations. Gift Aid has still to be added in to the total, but so far the income raised for the Hospice has reached £1342.

Nicky West, the Hospice’s Chief Executive said: “This is an amazing total. The money raised will make a significant difference to patients and carers at the hospice”.

None of this would be possible without the wonderful support of the two venues, local businesses and individuals. Thank you so much to everybody who contributed so generously to Light Up a Life through their time, efforts and donations.
