Update on Longlands Care Farm
Last year, Julia Evans and I gave a talk at your meeting about Longlands care farm, and the work we do with vulnerable and disadvantaged teenagers. This event and subsequent relationship led to a number of interesting consequences and outcomes, not least Rotary running (brilliantly) the Whitbourne Fete tea tent!
After the initial event, Jonathan Brew advised us that he had come across a trust, the Margaret Westwood Trust, which might be worth approaching for a grant. I duly followed this up, and am delighted to report that after a long process, much submission of information and a site visit, the Trust have very generously awarded us £10,000 towards our Round House building project-in-progress. This is a truly remarkable outcome, and would not have happened without Jonathan’s suggestion. Thank you so much, we are truly grateful.
To update you on the build itself: the timber frame is due to be commenced on 17th September. This will take around a month, and after that, the frame will be tarpaulined until next Spring, when the cob and straw walls and interior will be completed. We will keep you in the ‘loop’ and there will be an event next year when the Round House is due to be opened.
Once again, thank you all so much for your interest,
Vice Chair of the Longlands Board of Trustees
