14 July 2017 Site Editor 767 Community Service Visit to Longlands CarevFarm We had what I can only describe as an inspirational visit last night to Longlands Care Farm, followed by a delightful meal at the Green Cow Kitchens. Longlands provides care and support in the context of meaningful work to help vulnerable young people. Longlands Care Farm is a registered charity providing alternative education provision. It is based on a commercial farm. Activities and 'lessons' are designed around individual learning needs and the capabilities and aptitude of the students. The principle outcome we seek for our young people is to break a cycle of poor achievement and low aspiration. Julie Evans told us "Our aim is to provide access to vocational experiences and qualifications in a working farm environment for young people who are not succeeding in formal education, and others who require specific support to enable them to take part in social and employment environments" They cater for up to 35 teenagers each week, who are not in school nor have any other educational provision.
