Julia Evans, winner of the 2016 BBC's Countryfile Farming Hero Award

This Thursday promises to be a most interesting Dinner with Julia Evans coming to speak to the Club.

Julia won the much coveted 2016 BBC's Countryfile Farming Hero Award and is an inspirational person.

She runs Longlands Farm in Whitbourne and at the same time provides care and support in the context of meaningful work to help vulnerable young people.
She says, ”Our aim is to provide access to vocational experiences and qualifications in a working farm environment for young people who are not succeeding in formal education, and others who require specific support to enable them to take part in social and employment environments”

Longlands Care Farm is a registered charity providing alternative education provision.  It is based on a commercial farm.
Activities and 'lessons' are designed around individual learning needs and the capabilities and aptitude of the students.

Students are encouraged to enrol in one of the City & Guilds courses that we deliver and so as well as acquiring valuable vocational skills, they will leave us aged 16 or 18 with a nationally recognised qualification.
We currently offer C&G Land Based Studies to our students to award, certificate, and diploma level. Courses cover a wide range of subjects including animal care, agricultural skills, tractor driving and equine.  In addition, we offer modules in employability and personal development.
